My husband, Brian and I are high school sweethearts, born and raised in the Midwest. Macomb is my hometown, but I also spent time in Kansas City, Brian's hometown. After college, we moved to Denver, Colorado and fell in love with the active and healthy lifestyle that embodies Colorado. We spent many Saturday mornings riding our bikes to different farmer’s markets to pick up our groceries for the week. We loved supporting small and local farms and finding the freshest, healthiest food for our weekly meals.
Once we were ready to settle down and start a family, we chose to leave the fast-paced city life and put down roots in Macomb. Brian is now co-owner of Arnold Brother’s Heating and Cooling with plans to take over the business when my dad, 3rd generation owner, retires.
We have fallen in love with Macomb, what this community has to offer, and the people. Those unfamiliar with rural living may see it as boring and lacking, but we see it as a very rich lifestyle. One rich in relationships and strong community. The connections made between neighbors is one of a kind in rural America. We love our little piece of country living where our kids can roam, we have space for family and friends to gather, and we can admire the stars at night, something that wasn't possible in the city. We have chickens and fresh eggs in the morning, and dream of filling our large garden, once we get to a stage where we aren’t chasing two young kids.
The idea for Fresh Roots Market was birthed on a cocktail napkin at Magnolias in Macomb, our favorite date night spot. We all know there is nothing like a fresh garden tomato in the summer, but as a busy family, we couldn't always make it to the Farmer's Market or keep up with our home garden. We wanted to support local producers and feed our kids the healthiest produce, but shopping at multiple places just isn't practical when you are juggling full-time careers and kids. So, we dreamed of the day we could deliver farm fresh produce to other busy families and individuals like us.
We have been dreaming of building this business since 2017, and we are excited to see our vision come together. We have a big vision for Fresh Roots Market. First and foremost, we want customers to have better access to fresh, seasonal produce, especially when it is locally grown and richest in nutrients. We want to help busy families and individuals improve their health by exploring new ways to prepare healthy meals. We want to make healthy eating more convenient so you can spend less time at the store and more time doing the things you love. We want to create a market for farmers to sell their produce for a living wage and give them back more time to focus on what they are exceptional at, growing food. We want to reduce our impact on the environment by using reusable or biodegradable packaging when possible and by efficiently delivering to reduce our carbon footprint.
I have also spent my career working in the mental health and healthcare fields, and one of the biggest barriers we always faced in helping others improve their health was a lack of access to fresh produce. We have a mission to help those who lack the financial means and access to fresh produce.
We are passionate about strengthening our community in any way we can. We hope that you will come along with us and make this journey a win for everyone.
Eat Healthy. Live Happy.
